Azerbaijan Joins Global STEM Racing Program Supported by F1
Azerbaijan has officially joined the international STEM Racing program supported by Formula 1. The initiative, implemented in the country by the Baku City Circuit Operations Company, aims to promote engineering education and equip young people with the knowledge and skills required for future careers in high-tech industries.
As part of the program, the STEM Racing Hub a dedicated training center designed to prepare participants for the competition has been officially launched. The new facility has been established to provide teams with a practical environment for designing, manufacturing, and improving their racing models.
Speaking at the program’s presentation ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
“We are delighted that our country has become part of this global platform. The STEM Racing program not only provides students with technical knowledge but also helps develop essential skills such as teamwork, leadership, and project management. Many program participants go on to pursue engineering degrees, work for leading technology companies, and even build careers in Formula 1. I am confident that our team’s participation in the World Finals will be a valuable experience for our country and will inspire thousands of young people.”
As part of the initiative, the Caspian Apex team has been formed and will represent Azerbaijan at the World Finals for the first time. The competition will take place from 3–8 October 2026 in Sentosa Island, bringing together some of the world’s most talented young engineering teams.
Participants in the STEM Racing program operate in a manner similar to Formula 1 teams, with each member responsible for a specific area of expertise. Students use engineering software to design race car models, conduct aerodynamic analyses, manufacture components using 3D printers, and carry out testing. In addition, they gain experience in marketing, partnership development, and presentation skills.
The program also envisages the organization of Azerbaijan’s first national STEM Racing Championship in 2027. The winning team will earn the right to represent the country at the World Finals.
