Carlos Sainz Set for Williams Stay in 2027 as Contract Talks Progress

Carlos Sainz is reportedly close to extending his contract with Williams for the 2027 Formula 1 season. The Spaniard previously said he planned to discuss his future with team principal James Vowles after the summer break. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Sainz and his management are currently not considering alternative options and are focused exclusively on negotiations with Williams. The two sides are discussing the terms of a new agreement, which could reportedly be for just one year. Reports have also suggested that Sainz could be seeking a salary of around $30 million per season, compared with approximately $13 million under his current contract. However, Marca considers such a significant increase unlikely, given Williams’ financial situation. An official announcement could be made in the coming days, provided the negotiations are completed before the drivers begin their media commitments at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.
