Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Extended Until 2030

Formula 1 announced today that the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will remain on the World Championship calendar for an additional four years, extending through 2030.

Since 2016, the Baku City Circuit has delivered thrilling races to Formula 1 fans with its unique layout. Known for its historic Old City corners and the long, high-speed straights along the Caspian Sea, the circuit has consistently provided intense battles year after year. The race continues to grow in popularity, bringing together fans from over 70 countries in 2024 alone.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has established itself as one of the most unpredictable and competitive events on the calendar, with seven different winners across eight races. Sergio Pérez of Mexico remains the only driver to have won twice in Baku. Among current drivers, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri have each claimed one victory. Piastri secured a dramatic win last year after a fierce duel with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov stated:

“The extension of our partnership with Formula 1 strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as an international sports hub. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has become one of the most anticipated races of the World Championship while also showcasing our capital’s beauty, hospitality, and energy to the world. This cooperation is a significant step towards instilling a love of sport in future generations and hosting major global events.”

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali stated:

“The energy of Baku is incredible, and since our first Grand Prix here in 2016, Formula 1 has always been warmly and enthusiastically welcomed by the people of Azerbaijan. This track, with its technical corners and long straights running alongside the Caspian Sea and through the historic city, consistently delivers spectacular and exciting races. The extension of our agreement reflects the strong trust and cooperation between Formula 1, the Government of Azerbaijan, and the promoter, while opening new perspectives for the future of the sport in the country. I would like to thank President Ilham Aliyev and Minister Gayibov for their continued support of the event’s growth. I am also grateful to Anar Alakbarov and the Azerbaijan Automobile Federation for their contributions to the development of Formula 1 in the country, as well as to the Baku City Circuit team for their invaluable efforts throughout the year on behalf of fans, drivers, and teams.”
