McLaren Boss Eyes Verstappen Move to Mercedes with Concern
Zak Brown has admitted that he is concerned about the possibility of Max Verstappen joining Mercedes. The McLaren Racing CEO stated that it would be more beneficial for McLaren if the four-time world champion remained with his current team, Red Bull Racing.
Speculation regarding ongoing talks between Verstappen and Mercedes has been circulating for some time, although no official confirmation has been made.
In a recent appearance on The Sports Agents podcast, Brown commented on the situation: "I believe the Mercedes team is currently on the rise, while Red Bull is clearly facing some challenges. That said, it doesn’t mean they won’t be able to overcome them. Max is a very strong driver, so the idea of him potentially moving to Mercedes is, frankly, unsettling. I would certainly prefer to see him stay where he is. Moreover, in my view, if Red Bull were to lose Max, it would be something of a disaster for them."
Brown’s remarks come amid recent internal changes at Red Bull Racing. Christian Horner has reportedly been removed from all leadership roles within the team, with Laurent Mekies—formerly the head of Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls—appointed as his successor.
According to some sources, Horner's dismissal may be part of a broader strategy to create a more favorable environment that could persuade Verstappen to remain with Red Bull.
