McLaren CEO Zak Brown Takes Pole in Legendary McLaren M8D at Monterey Festival

McLaren CEO Zak Brown is known not only for his success as a team executive, but also for his strong passion for motorsport. His collection includes several legendary racing cars, which he regularly drives in competitive events.During the Monterey motorsport festival, Brown is competing in the renowned McLaren M8D from the Can-Am series, the Jaguar XJR8 Group C sports car and a Chevrolet Camaro used in IROC races. Brown secured pole position in qualifying with the M8D, earning him a front-row start for Sunday’s Bruce McLaren Trophy race.The McLaren M8D was built in 1970 and enjoyed a remarkable season, with the team winning nine of the ten Can-Am rounds that year. Its drivers included Denny Hulme, Peter Gethin and Dan Gurney. Notably, the car was developed shortly after the tragic death of McLaren founder Bruce McLaren, who was killed in an accident while testing the M8D at Goodwood.Brown continues to spend his summer break behind the wheel of historic racing machinery, while the McLaren Formula 1 team enjoys a short break following Lando Norris’ victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
