Tahir Abdullayev: I’m Ready to Roll Over My Opponent Like a Tank
Azerbaijani fighter Tahir Abdullayev, who is set to make his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night: Fiziev vs. Torres on June 27 at the Baku Crystal Hall's National Gymnastics Arena, has shared his thoughts on his preparation for the event.
Competing in the welterweight division, Abdullayev will face Brazil’s Jefferson Nascimento.
“Fighting in the UFC is a tremendous opportunity for me and the result of many years of hard work. I have been involved in combat sports since the age of 15 and have been competing professionally since I was 18. Reaching the UFC has always been one of my biggest goals, and today I have earned the chance to compete in the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization.
I was training in the United States when I was preparing to sign with the UFC. Initially, I was scheduled to face a different opponent, but the plans changed and I was offered a spot on the card in Baku. When the opportunity came, I accepted it without hesitation. It does not matter to me who stands across from me in the Octagon.
My opponent is from Brazil and comes from a Brazilian jiu-jitsu background. I want to tell him to be ready. I know his strengths and I respect him as a fighter. However, I enter the Octagon with one objective to win and showcase my abilities. My nickname is ‘Tank,’ and I am ready to roll over my opponent like a tank.
Making my UFC debut in Baku, in front of my home fans, is a source of great pride. This is a moment I have dreamed about for many years. The support of the local crowd gives me extra motivation, and I will do everything possible to live up to their expectations.
At the moment, my full focus is on the upcoming fight. My goal is to establish myself in the UFC, secure victories, and eventually compete for even greater achievements in the organization.
