UFC 330: Islam Makhachev Retains Welterweight Title and Breaks UFC Record
Islam Makhachev successfully defended his UFC welterweight championship against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on 15 August 2026. The Russian champion won by unanimous decision after five rounds, with the judges scoring the bout 49–46, 49–46 and 48–47 in his favour. Makhachev relied on his world-class wrestling and grappling throughout the contest, using his control on the ground to limit Garry’s opportunities. The Irish challenger showed resilience and remained competitive, but Makhachev maintained enough control to secure another successful title defence. The victory was particularly significant for Makhachev as it marked his 17th consecutive UFC win, setting a new promotional record. His professional record now stands at 29 victories and one defeat. Makhachev captured the welterweight championship after moving up from lightweight and defeating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in November 2025. He had previously defended the lightweight title four times before vacating it to pursue a second UFC championship. Following his latest victory, Makhachev has already made it clear that he wants to remain active and hopes to defend the welterweight belt again before the end of 2026. Carlos Prates and Michael Morales are among the leading names being discussed as potential future challengers, although the UFC has yet to officially announce his next opponent.
