Alex Dunne Enjoys Baku’s Castle Section

During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Irish driver Alex Dunne of the Rodin Motorsport team sat down with the Racebrief team for an exclusive interview. Known for his sharp racing instincts, consistency under pressure, and strong technical feedback, Dunne shared his insights on the season and his journey in motorsport. —Baku is a unique mix of high speed straights and tight technical corners. How did you approach setting up the car for such contrasting circuit ? Well, I can’t tell you everything, otherwise I’d be giving it all away. I think it’s always a bit of a compromise at the start. For us, with you starting from the lead, you can set up the car a bit differently to be stronger in clean air. For me, starting from seventh, it’s more important to have a strong car when following. The key here is to be quick on the straights. The run from the exit of the last corner down to Turn 1 is nearly two kilometers, so having strong straight-line speed and being able to overtake is the most important factor. —What is your favorite part of the Baku City Circuit? I think probably the castle section. There’s nowhere else in the world where you can drive through a castle. It’s still tight and technical, but at the same time relatively high-speed. From the outside, it might look like a slow corner, but it’s actually not. So, for me, it’s definitely the castle section. —Do you usually stick to any strategy at Azerbaijan Grand Prix? Not necessarily, to be honest. We don’t stick to any specific strategy it’s the same approach we use at other races. Of course, the strategy changes slightly every weekend, but the overall idea remains relatively the same. I don’t think there are any major differences. Naturally, there are a few key things we focus on, but usually there aren’t any big changes. Interview by: Aynur Mehdiyeva
