Baku Gears Up for Alufar IRONMAN 70.3 as IRONMAN Village Opens

Baku has officially begun preparations for the Alufar IRONMAN 70.3, with race-week activities getting underway in the Azerbaijani capital ahead of the main competition on September 5.The IRONMAN Village and an entertainment zone have opened on Baku Boulevard near the Seven Beauties Fountain, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the world-famous triathlon series. The venue will host a range of activities and entertainment in the build-up to the main race.Athlete registration also opened today, with competitors arriving in Baku ahead of Saturday’s Alufar IRONMAN 70.3.The main race on September 5 will feature athletes from 62 countries, underlining the international scale of the event. Competitors will face the traditional IRONMAN 70.3 format, consisting of a 1.9-kilometre swim, 90-kilometre cycling leg and 21.1-kilometre run.Racing will take place across 13 age groups in the men’s and women’s categories. A relay competition will also form part of the programme, with 47 men’s, women’s and mixed teams expected to compete. The event will additionally recognise the three most active clubs.There is also a major incentive for the leading athletes. The top 25 male and top 25 female finishers at IRONMAN 70.3 Baku will secure qualification slots for the 2027 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, which will be held in the United States.Race-week action will begin ahead of the main event, with the IRONKIDS children’s race and Fun Run scheduled for September 4.IRONKIDS will feature three age categories. Children aged 5–8 will run 500 metres, participants aged 9–13 will compete over 1 kilometre, while teenagers aged 14–17 will complete a 2-kilometre course.The 5-kilometre Fun Run will be open to everyone aged 18 and above, offering members of the public the chance to take part in the race-week programme. Registration for both IRONKIDS and the Fun Run remains open.The Alufar IRONMAN 70.3 Baku is being organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation and Baku City Circuit Operations Company.With athletes from 62 countries set to compete and World Championship qualification places at stake, Baku is preparing to host one of the most significant international triathlon events ever staged in Azerbaijan.
