MotoGP star Marco Bezzecchi was among those watching from the sidelines as his friend Kimi Antonelli secured a memorable home victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. The Mercedes driver delivered a standout performance to claim his seventh victory of the season.Their friendship has grown through their shared passion for motorsport. Earlier this year, Antonelli visited the MotoGP round at Mugello, where Bezzecchi took victory. Now, the Aprilia rider is preparing for his own home event at Misano, where he is hoping to receive the same level of support from the Italian crowd.Bezzecchi also spoke warmly about Antonelli’s admiration for Valentino Rossi. The MotoGP rider revealed that Antonelli had shown him early sketches of his special Rossi-inspired helmet before bringing the design to Monza.
“I support Antonelli not only because he is Italian, but above all because he is my friend. We are both from Emilia-Romagna, the ‘Land of Motors’, and I think that is another thing that connects us,” Bezzecchi said.
The Aprilia rider also admitted that he would like to see Antonelli experience motorcycle racing one day. However, the Mercedes driver’s contractual commitments currently prevent him from making the switch to two wheels.After 13 rounds, Bezzecchi sits third in the MotoGP championship, having recorded four victories and four further podium finishes. His Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin currently leads the championship standings.
