Browning on Top in Monza:Title Battle Alive
After winning Saturday’s sprint race, Leonardo Fornaroli extended his lead in the Formula 2 championship to 24 points, though he started only eighth in the feature race at Monza. His main title rivals, Jack Crawford and Richard Verschoor, began even further back on the grid.
Luke Browning of Hitech lined up on pole and was determined to make the most of his opportunity. The race quickly turned dramatic, with a series of early incidents: Kush Maini and Arvid Lindblad collided, and later Lindblad forced both Alex Dunn and Roman Stanek off the track, receiving penalties for his actions. As a result, the safety car was deployed several times.
Joshua Durksen and Fornaroli capitalized on the chaos to move up the order, while Sebastián Montoya impressively gained more than ten positions after starting at the back of the grid. Yet the standout of the day was Browning, who held firm under pressure and secured his maiden Formula 2 victory.
Dürksen finished second, with Pepe Marti completing the podium in third. Fornaroli crossed the line fifth, maintaining his lead in the standings, but his advantage was reduced to 20 points over Browning.
The next round takes place in Baku, where up to 39 points will be available meaning the championship picture could change significantly.
