Formula 1 Return to the Netherlands Unlikely as Assen Prioritises MotoGP
July 21, 2026
Following the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort in August, Formula 1 will leave the Netherlands for an indefinite period. The event's organisers have decided against extending the race due to rising costs, while TT Circuit Assen is unwilling to invest the millions of euros required to upgrade the venue and obtain FIA Grade 1 certification.TT Circuit Assen director Mark van Aalderen said the chances of the circuit hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix before 2030 are virtually non-existent and remain extremely slim even beyond that. According to him, the circuit will instead focus on maintaining and developing its MotoGP facilities, which will also require significant investment.
