Formula 1 Excitement in Baku:Over 12,000 Tourists, 20,000 Grandstand Seats, and the Efforts of Thousands of Azerbaijanis
From September 19 to 21, the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025 will take place in our capital. In just a few days, the roar of engines will once again echo through the streets of Baku, transforming the city into the center of the global motorsport world.
During the race weekend, more than 12,000 foreign tourists are expected to arrive in Baku. According to official statistics, last year over 80 percent of spectators were international visitors. Many guests traveled to the city not even for tickets, but simply to experience the unique Formula 1 atmosphere. According to Formula 1 data, 55 percent of fans are ready to recommend the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to friends, while 72 percent plan to return within the next two years.
Figures show that the average spending of a foreign spectator exceeds 2,200 USD, making the Grand Prix a key driver for the growth of tourism and entrepreneurship. In 2024, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix reached a live global audience of 86 million viewers, while interest across various platforms surpassed 3.9 billion people.
Given the growing demand, two new grandstands have been constructed for 2025. Tickets for 10 out of 12 grandstands have already sold out, with the overall capacity exceeding 20,000 seats. This further strengthens Baku’s position on the Formula 1 map.
Preparations for the event involve thousands of people. Over 2,000 engineers, technicians, fitters, and logistics specialists are engaged in construction and installation works, carried out mainly at night to minimize disruption for residents. During race week, the workforce will be reinforced with an additional 1,500 staff members, 2,000 volunteers, and 1,400 marshals.
In the early years, much of the work was managed by foreign companies. Today, the entire process is carried out by local contractors, creating new jobs and helping Azerbaijani professionals gain valuable expertise. Thus, the Grand Prix serves not only as a sporting spectacle but also as a powerful platform for economic growth.
