Formula E Finale: Pascal Wehrlein Warns Team Tactics Could Decide Championship
The Formula E season finale in London will determine the new champion, with two races remaining and nine drivers still mathematically in contention. However, Jake Dennis, Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein are considered the leading contenders. Dennis heads the standings, two points ahead of Evans, while Wehrlein is a further three points behind. The Porsche driver is concerned that the championship could be decided not only by on-track performance, but also by team tactics. According to Wehrlein, teams have had a greater influence on race outcomes this season through their drivers’ actions. He cited the first Tokyo race as an example, where Sebastien Buemi, who was already facing a penalty, deliberately slowed the field to help his Envision teammate Joel Eriksson score points. “That is already too much. It is completely different when teammates simply swap positions for the benefit of the team,” Wehrlein said. The Porsche driver also acknowledged that Nico Müller could assist him in London, as Porsche remains in contention for the Teams’ Championship. To prevent such situations, Wehrlein suggested a radical solution: banning team radio communications. In his view, drivers can receive all the necessary information through the display on the steering wheel, including details about the pit-stop window.
