Is Perez Joining Cadillac?
The Formula 1 summer break traditionally brings a spike in speculation. With fewer official updates during this period, anticipation surrounding the upcoming season tends to intensify. According to PlanetF1, the confirmation of Sergio Perez’s contract with the Cadillac F1 team may be imminent. The publication cites multiple independent sources who claim that an agreement has already been reached, with an official announcement expected during the Italian Grand Prix weekend.
Reports suggest that the 35-year-old Mexican driver has been in discussions with General Motors’ forthcoming works team for over a year. Notably, he recently changed management a move that appears to align with this potential new chapter in his career.
Speaking to the media, his father, Antonio Perez, stated: “The best of Sergio is yet to come. Historic achievements lie ahead. He is not leaving Formula 1 that’s all I can say for now.”
Should these rumors prove accurate, the next major question is who will join Perez at Cadillac. Among the leading candidates are Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Drugovich, as well as emerging young talents such as Jack Crawford, Alex Dunne, and Mick Schumacher. However, Schumacher has faced criticism, with Jacques Villeneuve recently remarking: “Mick struggled during his time at Haas, and he cannot be considered an experienced driver. There’s no compelling reason to bet on him.”
The full driver lineup for what would become Formula 1’s eleventh team could be revealed as early as the Monza race weekend meaning fans may not have long to wait.
