Laurent Mekies Takes Over at Red Bull F1

Laurent Mekies Appointed as Red Bull Team Principal

Laurent Mekies has been appointed as the new Team Principal of Red Bull Racing. The 48-year-old French engineer is now tasked with demonstrating both his technical expertise and leadership capabilities within one of Formula 1’s most successful teams.

Born on April 28, 1977, in Tours, France, Mekies developed an interest in motorsport from a young age. He began his career in Formula 3 with the Asiatech team before moving into Formula 1 in the early 2000s, initially working with Arrows and later with Minardi.

Following Red Bull's acquisition of Minardi and its transformation into Toro Rosso in 2006, Mekies was appointed Chief Engineer—a position he held for a decade, gaining valuable experience in the process.

In 2014, he transitioned to the FIA, where he served as Safety Director and Deputy Race Director. During his tenure, Mekies played a key role in the development and implementation of the Halo safety system, which has since become a vital and standard safety feature in Formula 1.

Now, as he takes on the leadership role at Red Bull Racing, Mekies faces significant responsibility. Adding to the challenge is the uncertainty surrounding the future of the team's star driver, Max Verstappen.

After two decades under the leadership of Christian Horner, the future direction of Red Bull now depends heavily on the decisions and vision of Laurent Mekies.
