Liam Lawson Reveals Helmut Marko Conversation That Led to His F1 Debut

Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson has revealed that a candid conversation with Helmut Marko during the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix weekend proved to be a turning point in his career. The New Zealander admitted that after spending five years in Red Bull's junior programme, he could not understand why he had still not been given the opportunity to make his Formula 1 debut.According to Lawson, he approached Marko directly and asked why the team had not trusted him with a seat in Formula 1. He described the discussion as tense, with the conversation ending sooner than he had expected.Following Daniel Ricciardo's injury, Red Bull initially considered other options before Marko called Lawson back for another meeting. The Red Bull advisor asked him just one question whether he was ready to race. After Lawson replied that he was, the team handed him his Formula 1 debut at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.
