Max Verstappen finished second at Madring and believes Red Bull Racing can be satisfied with the result given the team’s overall race pace.
“If we look at our pace throughout the race, second place was a really excellent result for us. Of course, we also have to take into account that Lando was unlucky with the timing of the Virtual Safety Car, so that situation worked in our favour to some extent.You could see how quickly Lando was closing the gap towards the end of the race. However, overtaking is extremely difficult at this circuit. I tried to position the car in the middle of the track and deny him a clear opportunity to attack. In the end, that approach worked very well and I was able to maintain my position.At the same time, I had to manage the tyres carefully. I was trying not to put too much stress on them and preserve as much grip as possible until the chequered flag. I think that was the most difficult part of the final stint.”
Liam Lawson also delivered a strong performance, finishing sixth. It marked the New Zealander’s best result since joining Red Bull Racing.
