McLaren Apologizes After Vegas Disqualification
Following the release of the FIA documents regarding the disqualification of both McLaren cars, the team issued a statement apologizing to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Andrea Stella,Team Principal: “After the Las Vegas Grand Prix, it was found that we had breached Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations, which requires the skid block to be at least 9 mm thick. On car No. 4, it measured 0.12 mm below the minimum, and on car No. 81-0.26 mm below.
During the race, the cars experienced unusually strong vertical oscillations, which did not occur during practice, resulting in excessive contact with the track. We are analysing the causes, including post-race damage to both cars, which further increased the floor’s movement.
The FIA emphasized that the breach was unintentional, with no deliberate attempt to circumvent the regulations, and that mitigating circumstances exist.
We apologize to Lando and Oscar they lost points at a critical stage of the championship as well as to our partners and fans. This outcome is extremely disappointing, but we remain focused and are preparing for the final two races of the season.”
