"New Documentary Uncovers Ayrton Senna’s Life Off the Track"

On the evening of August 20, the Italian premiere of the documentary La Leggenda ("The Legend") aired on Sky Documentaries. Directed by British filmmaker Francis Megahy, a close friend of Ayrton Senna, the film offers a rare glimpse into the private life of the three-time Formula1 World Champion beyond the racetrack.

Unlike traditional sports documentaries,La Leggenda does not focus on Senna’s racing achievements. Instead, it reveals the thoughtful, passionate, and deeply patriotic individual behind the iconic helmet.The documentary features never-before-seen archival footage, much of it filmed at Senna’s private residence in São Paulo, as well as personal interviews in which the legendary driver reflects on emotional balance, self-discovery, and the true essence of his profession.

The film pays special attention to Senna’s deep connection with his native Brazil from his agricultural estate to the karting track where he began his motorsport journey. It also portrays his everyday life: behind the wheel of a practical family estate car, riding a motorcycle, piloting his own helicopter, and flying radio-controlled aircraft with his nephew Bruno.

La Leggenda is an intimate and honest portrait of a man who constantly pursued excellence not only on the circuit but in every aspect of his life. Following its television premiere, the documentary is now available on selected streaming platforms.
