Norris Shines at Silverstone with Home Win
British Grand Prix:Norris Triumphs at Home,Hulkenberg Makes Historic Podium
The twelfth round of the season at Silverstone marked the halfway point of the championship. Although the competitive order had largely taken shape, surprises remained a regular feature. Teams continued to refine their cars, while changing circuits, weather conditions, and strategies kept the field dynamic — making this final season before the regulation change both unpredictable and engaging.
Throughout the weekend, the lead changed hands several times: Hamilton and Norris topped Friday sessions, Leclerc was fastest on Saturday morning, and Verstappen secured pole in qualifying. With such variance, predicting a winner ahead of the race was no easy task.
The front row featured Verstappen and Piastri, followed by Norris and Russell on the second, and Hamilton and Leclerc on the third. Antonelli received a three-place grid penalty from Austria after a collision with Verstappen, while Bearman was penalized ten places at Silverstone for a red flag infraction. Colapinto, having changed his power unit under parc fermé conditions, started from the pit lane.
As is tradition at Silverstone, rain made an appearance on Sunday. The track remained damp, though conditions improved by race time. Verstappen held the lead off the line, while Colapinto was unable to start due to gearbox failure. Early on, Ocon made contact with Lawson, forcing both to pit. Antonelli switched to slicks, and the safety car was deployed following Bortoleto's crash. At the restart, Piastri overtook Verstappen and began to build a gap.
Piastri was later handed a 10-second penalty for an infringement during the restart. Several front-runners, including Hamilton, Verstappen, and Stroll, changed tyres as conditions evolved. Hamilton steadily moved through the field, eventually overtaking Gasly and Stroll to climb into the top five.
Norris assumed the lead following the final restart and never looked back. In the closing laps, Verstappen passed Stroll for fifth, while Gasly overtook the Aston Martin driver for sixth.
Lando Norris claimed victory at the British Grand Prix, earning his first career win at his home race, his fourth of the season, and the eighth of his F1 career. Oscar Piastri finished second, securing McLaren’s fifth 1-2 finish of the season and the 54th in team history. Nico Hülkenberg completed the podium, charging up 16 positions to score his first-ever top-three finish in what was his 239th Grand Prix also marking Sauber’s first podium since the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix.
The season resumes in three weeks at Spa-Francorchamps.
