Pirelli Unveils Chimera Trophies
Ahead of the Monza round, the company unveiled special trophies that will be awarded to the winner and podium finishers of Sunday’s race. The creation of these unique awards was entrusted to renowned contemporary Italian artist and sculptor Nico Vascellari. Widely recognized in the art world for his bold experiments in graphics, sculpture, and even sound installations, Vascellari was chosen precisely for the significance of this project.
The trophies are designed in the image of the “Chimera” a legendary creature from ancient Greek mythology, first mentioned in Homer’s Iliad. The Chimera combines the features of a lion, a goat, and a serpent, symbolizing both strength and power as well as the duality of nature. According to the concept’s creators, this imagery reflects the philosophy of motorsport itself: a fusion of different elements, risk, competition, and the constant drive to push beyond the limits of possibility.
Although the choice of such a complex and ambiguous symbol may spark debate, the trophies have already impressed with their originality and bold artistic execution. Pirelli emphasized that the intention was to create not merely a prize, but a true work of art that will become part of Formula1 history and highlight the unique significance of this anniversary occasion.
