Red Bull and Horner Part Ways After 20-Year Legacy

On August 13, Christian Horner’s contract with Red Bull Racing was officially terminated, as confirmed by filings in the UK’s Companies House. The 51-year-old had led the team since 2005, securing six Constructors’ Championships before his departure.

Horner was already removed from his leadership roles as early as July 9, with the move formalizing years of speculation. He has now been succeeded by Laurent Mekies.

This decision stemmed in part from a scandal in early 2024, when a female employee accused Horner of inappropriate behavior. Though he was cleared in an internal investigation, the allegations came amid a period of underperformance for the team. Despite Max Verstappen winning a fourth consecutive drivers’ title,Horner’s position had become untenable.

Furthermore, on July 8, Stefan Salzer previously a director at Red Bull GmbH was officially appointed to Red Bull Racing’s board, though he lacks motorsport experience.
