Russell Strikes Back in Singapore
George Russell claimed victory at the Singapore Grand Prix and admitted that this result made up for his misfortune two years ago, when he crashed out on the final lap. The Mercedes driver noted that even he does not fully understand where the team’s impressive pace came from.
“It’s an incredible feeling, especially after missing out on the win two years ago. This time, everything came together perfectly the team did a brilliant job. We don’t even know exactly why the car was so fast, but I’m absolutely delighted. Friday was difficult, but by qualifying everything fell into place. I was a bit nervous at the start when I saw Max on the soft tyres, but our strategy worked out perfectly,” said Russell.
Kimi Antonelli, who finished fifth, admitted that his start was compromised by wheelspin but later managed to recover positions and overtake Leclerc:
“It was a tough race, but the pace allowed me to fight back. Fifth place is a solid result. Congratulations to George he truly deserved this win, and these are important points for the team in the battle for second place in the Constructors’ Championship.”
