Strategic Masterclass:Durksen Wins Wild F2 Finale
The Formula 2 season finale in Abu Dhabi delivered a packed spectacle filled with penalties, incidents, strategic battles, and a decisive twist in the closing laps.
Fornaroli began the day with a penalty for gaining an advantage off-track, yet he still lined up third on the grid. His teammate Roman Stanek started from pole, with a highly motivated Jak Crawford alongside him determined to secure the runner-up spot in the championship.
Early in the race, strategy played a crucial role: Staněk and Beganovic were the first to pit, while Fornaroli extended his stint. The situation was complicated by a VSC period triggered by Montoya’s stopped car. After the restart, Lindblad managed to overtake Fornaroli, while Crawford continued to climb through the field despite intense pressure. Additional intrigue came from penalties for Beganovic and Browning for speeding in the pit lane.
When the leading group finally pitted for fresh tyres late in the race, Joshua Durksen emerged in front his strategy proving perfect. The Paraguayan confidently secured victory, repeating his success at Abu Dhabi from the previous year.
Beganovic dropped off the podium due to his penalty, allowing Stanek to inherit second place and secure the Teams’ Championship title for Invicta Racing. Third place went to Gabriele Mini, marking his first podium since Spa.
The season finale was tense, unpredictable, and anything but dull. Formula 2 will now pause until the championship resumes on March 8 in Australia.
