Max Verstappen claimed pole position at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix for the first time in his career,demonstrating impressive speed and skill on the Baku circuit. For the reigning world champion, this marks his sixth pole of the current season and the 46th of his career, further highlighting his consistency and dominant position in the championship.
Max Verstappen:“Qualifying was extremely intense and drawn out due to multiple red flags. Under these conditions, putting together a clean lap was very difficult: the tires often didn’t reach the right temperature, and sessions were repeatedly interrupted. The final phase was especially tricky with the rain, which added extra challenges for everyone.
On the last lap, I had to give it my all. I didn’t even have the tires I had planned to use, as they were all gone earlier than expected because of the red flags.
I’m happy with how the weekend has gone so far. We looked strong from the first practice, kept improving through each session, and delivered a solid performance in qualifying when it really counted.
I think the pole was achievable regardless of the weather. The final part of the session was chaotic for everyone, but I’m satisfied with the result. Since Monza, we’ve consistently shown strong pace, and I hope that continues.
The race will be long and challenging. A good start, maintaining consistent pace, and managing tire wear carefully especially with the softer compounds will be crucial. We’ll see how things unfold on track.”
