Vintage Car Rally Returns to Azerbaijan
The legendary “Peking to Paris Motor Challenge” automobile rally passes through Azerbaijan once again!
One of the most thrilling automobile events in the world, the international “Peking to Paris Motor Challenge” rally is traversing Azerbaijan for the second time. The classic car rally is being organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Automobile Federation, and the Baku City Circuit Operating Company.
The “Peking to Paris Motor Challenge” is a true test of endurance for the legendary automobiles of the 20th century and their crews. Over the course of 37 days, participants will cover a distance of 14,500 kilometers, passing through 12 countries. The rally began on May 17 at the Great Wall of China and, having traveled through China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan, has now reached Azerbaijan.
Automobile enthusiasts had the opportunity to view these rare classic cars up close during an exhibition held in the National Seaside Park, in front of the "Seven Beauties" fountain. At the event, the oldest vehicle in the rally — a 1917 American LaFrance Type 10 — and the newest — a 1984 Toyota Hilux — were presented.
On June 9, the Azerbaijani leg of the rally began from in front of the Heydar Aliyev Center. This stage of the race will pass through Gobustan, Shamakhi, the Acinohur-Jeyranchol plain, and other scenic regions of Azerbaijan, ending in the city of Qakh. A total of 55 vintage automobiles are participating in the race across Azerbaijan. On June 10, the participants will leave the country and continue their journey along exciting routes through Georgia and Turkey.
Thereafter, the rally will proceed through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, and Switzerland, before reaching its final destination in France.
It is worth noting that the “Peking to Paris” motor rally was first held in 1907, and this is the second time in its history that the route includes Azerbaijan.
