Why Winning in Formula 1 Gets Expensive
January 6, 2026
Formula 1 values results even on paper. The base cost of a super licence is €11,842, with an additional €2,392 charged for each point scored in the previous season.
In 2026, the most expensive licence will belong to reigning world champion Lando Norris, while four drivers will pay only the minimum fee: Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, Franco Colapinto, and rookie Arvid Lindblad.
Importantly, the cost of the super licence is covered by the teams and is not subject to the budget cap.
