2026:F1’s Technical Revolution
Starting from 2026, the Formula 1 World Championship will undergo technical and structural changes. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has announced that, in this new era, a special system will be implemented to support engine manufacturers in terms of quality and development.
The main goal of this new system is to reduce the gap between the leading teams and those further behind in the championship, creating opportunities for all teams to progress. It will also enable underperforming engine manufacturers to achieve more competitive results.
FIA representative Nikolas Tombazis stated that this system is significantly different from the Balance of Performance approach used in other series such as WEC and GT racing.
The new system will be called Additional Development Opportunities (ADUO).
In recent years, the FIA has introduced test restrictions, budget caps, and limitations on wind tunnel usage in an effort to alleviate the financial disparity between teams in the championship. However, these limitations have created challenges for the development of weaker teams.
Therefore, the development privileges to be introduced from 2026 are expected to be an effective solution to address this issue.
