Alonso’s Legacy Began Here: 22 Years Since He Made History
Exactly 22 years ago, Fernando Alonso claimed his first victory in Formula 1 by winning the 2003 Hungarian Grand Prix.At the time, he was just 22 years and 26 days old, becoming the youngest winner in F1 history, breaking the record previously held by Bruce McLaren.
Alonso started from pole position at the Hungaroring and led almost the entire race, surrendering the lead only briefly during a pit stop. His closest rival was Kimi Raikkonen, but after the McLaren driver made his own stop, Alonso regained the lead and confidently secured the win. One of the most memorable moments was when Alonso lapped both Michael Schumacher and his own teammate,Jarno Trulli.
"This is simply incredible! I took pole and won the race my dream has come true," said the young Spaniard after the race.
Today, in 2025,Alonso continues to compete in Formula 1.The Hungarian Grand Prix marked the 415th race of his career. At 44 years old, he remains in excellent physical shape, consistently scores points, and just three weeks ago finished a respectable fifth on the same track despite driving the Aston Martin AMR25, which is far from the fastest car on the grid.
