American Manufacturers Support F1 V8 Return
Ford Motor Company and General Motors have expressed support for a possible return of V8 engines to Formula Oneafter 2030. Ford Performance chief Mark Rushbrook stated that the company supports the idea of reducing the electric component of the power units and eventually switching to naturally aspirated V8 engines.
Mark Reuss, President of General Motors, also said that he appreciates V8 engines and their sound, while acknowledging the significant investments already made in the current hybrid V6 power units. At the same time, GM is prepared to adapt if the FIA and Formula 1 teams decide to return to V8 engines.
Currently, Cadillac Formula 1 Team competes with Ferrari customer power units, while General Motors’ own engine project is expected to be ready by 2028. However, if the regulations shift in favor of V8 engines, GM could discontinue development of its hybrid power unit and remain a customer team until the introduction of the new engines.
