Buemi Triumphs in Rain-Soaked Monaco as Rowland Extends Championship Lead

The Formula E Monaco E-Prix unfolded under challenging weather conditions, with a damp track following earlier rain adding complexity to the race. Despite concerns over potential incidents, the start was clean, with drivers exercising notable caution.

Pole position was secured by Saturday’s race winner Oliver Rowland (Nissan), with Nyck de Vries (Mahindra) starting alongside him. The second row featured DS Penske teammates Max Günther and Jean-Eric Vergne. Formula E veteran Sébastien Buemi (Envision) began from the fourth row—his best qualifying result this season—while Sam Bird (McLaren) was forced to start from the pit lane after a crash in qualifying.

Early in the race, Vergne activated Attack Mode to take the lead and managed to build a gap of four seconds over Rowland. However, a crash involving Lucas di Grassi brought out the safety car, bunching up the field once again. Upon the restart, an intense battle for the lead unfolded between Rowland, de Vries, and Buemi.

In the closing laps, Buemi strategically used his final Attack Mode activation to take control of the race. He maintained his advantage to claim a well-earned victory—his third win on the streets of Monaco. Rowland crossed the line in second place, further consolidating his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. Nick Cassidy (Jaguar) completed the podium, recording his best result of the season.

The championship now heads to Tokyo for the next double-header round on May 17–18, which will serve as a home event for Nissan. The manufacturer currently trails Porsche in the Teams' Standings by a narrow margin, setting the stage for a crucial battle in Japan.
