Chinese Grand Prix Delivers Drama as McLaren Claims Victory in Round 2

The second round of the Formula 1 World Championship — the Chinese Grand Prix — proved to be a memorable event, marked by several key developments both on and off the track. This season, eight teams entered the race with different driver lineups, while the Shanghai International Circuit featured a newly resurfaced track.

According to RaceBrief.com, Lando Norris was the fastest in the weekend’s only free practice session. In the Sprint Shootout, Lewis Hamilton secured pole position and went on to maintain his lead to win the Sprint Race.

A day later, Oscar Piastri captured pole position for the main Grand Prix. Pirelli supplied C2, C3, and C4 compounds for the event, with most drivers opting to start the race on medium tyres. Only Lance Stroll, Oliver Bearman, and Liam Lawson began on hard compounds.

Before the race began, a minute of silence was held in memory of legendary team owner Eddie Jordan.

The race featured an intense battle throughout the field. The front row was occupied by Oscar Piastri and George Russell, with Norris and Max Verstappen starting from the second row. Ferrari drivers lined up on the third row.

Despite the fierce competition, it was McLaren who ultimately came out on top. Near the end of the race, Norris suffered a brake issue that caused him to lose almost six seconds in a single lap. His fellow Briton George Russell, who was closely trailing, attempted to close the gap, but ran out of time to mount a challenge.
