F1 Shifts to Sustainability
Formula 1 Confirms Progress Toward Net Zero Goal
In five years, Formula 1 aims to achieve Net Zero status, reaffirming its commitment to reducing CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions. According to its annual sustainability report, emissions have been reduced by 26%, equivalent to 168,720 tonnes of CO2, compared to 228,793 tonnes the previous year.
Following adjustments to the race calendar, events are now grouped by region—helping to significantly reduce long-haul travel. This, combined with the increased use of wind and solar energy by teams, and the implementation of biofuels for freight transport within Europe (which alone cuts emissions by 83%), is helping Formula 1 move steadily toward its environmental targets.
Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, stated: “We are proud of the progress we’ve already made and remain fully committed to continuing on this path. Formula 1 has always stood for innovation and the relentless pursuit of improvement. Once again, this mindset has enabled us to make significant strides—not only for those within our sport but for society as a whole.”
