FIA Considers Engine Rule Reset After Race Cancellations

The FIA is considering revising the timelines for power unit development within the ADUO programme following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix. Due to changes in the calendar, the schedule for performance assessments has shifted, meaning the first evaluation of engine efficiency may now take place later than originally planned potentially at the Monaco Grand Prix rather than in Miami.

Under the current regulations, performance analysis is conducted at set intervals using a dedicated performance index. The ADUO programme provides underperforming manufacturers with additional development opportunities, including expanded upgrade allowances, increased bench testing time, and greater flexibility within budget constraints.

Initially, Mercedes held the most advantageous position, as its power units serve as the benchmark. Meanwhile, manufacturers such as Ferrari and Audi are advocating for an earlier reassessment in order to accelerate progress and reduce the performance gap.
