FIA Delays Key Engine Discussions
The FIA had originally scheduled a meeting for September 11 with Formula 1 power unit manufacturers to discuss a potential return to naturally aspirated V8 engines powered by fully sustainable fuel. However, the meeting has now been postponed indefinitely.
The decision comes amid deep divisions among stakeholders. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has been pushing for the introduction of new engines as early as 2029, but the proposal has gained little traction. Several manufacturers remain unconvinced, with Honda and Audi in particular firmly opposing any premature shift away from the current engine framework.
While the concept remains on the agenda, discussions will only resume once a broader consensus is reached something that appears unlikely in the near future.
This marks the second time in six months that Ben Sulayem’s push to revive traditional engines has been turned down. Earlier, during the Bahrain Grand Prix, manufacturers also rejected his call for a return to V10s, reiterating their commitment to hybrid technology and sustainable fuel as non-negotiable pillars of Formula 1’s future.
