FIA President Ben Sulayem Seeks Re-Election
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has officially confirmed his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile, scheduled for 12 December 2025. His decision was widely anticipated, given the active role he has played in leading the organization in recent years. With this announcement, Ben Sulayem becomes the second candidate in the race, joining Tim Mayer, who had declared his bid earlier.
The incumbent president is running under the campaign slogan “Much has been achieved, but the most important lies ahead,” emphasizing both the accomplishments of his first term and the challenges that, in his view, remain to be addressed.
Ben Sulayem’s campaign team includes several senior FIA officials:
Carmelo Sanz de Barros — President of the FIA Senate,
Tim Sherman — Vice President for Mobility,
Malcolm Wilson — Vice President for Motorsport,
Fabiana Ecclestone — Vice President for Sport in South America, along with other influential figures already playing key roles within the federation’s leadership.
If re-elected, Ben Sulayem would remain in office until the end of 2029.Under current FIA statutes, no president may serve more than three consecutive terms, establishing clear limits for the future of his leadership.
The upcoming election is expected to be a landmark event for international motorsport, as it will shape the direction of the FIA for the years ahead, including reforms in safety, sustainability, and the global promotion of motor racing.
