Fornaroli Prioritizes Top Speed in Baku Setup
During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend in Baku, we had the opportunity to sit down with Italian Formula 2 driver Leonardo Fornaroli. A rising star in the junior categories, Fornaroli is steadily building his career with strong performances, sharp race instincts, and a clear focus on growth. In this exclusive interview, he reflects on his journey so far, the challenges of competing in F2, and his ambitions for the future. —How do you stay focused through Baku’s tricky sections, like the Castle? Well, of course, it’s a very nice but also tricky section. You really need a lot of concentration to get everything right. There isn’t a specific technique to stay focused it’s just about concentrating on doing the right things, and if you manage that, the result will be good. —Do you go into a chaotic race like Baku with a fixed strategy, or do you keep it flexible? Well, a lot can happen here in the first lap or during a safety car restart, so I try to be a bit more cautious and wait for the right opportunity to make a clean overtake —Did you prioritize top speed or more downforce in your car setup for Baku? I think we all prioritize top speed this year because we’re all running with low downforce. Last year, one car was on low downforce and the other on medium, but from what we saw in the simulator and in practice, the best option was low downforce. So this year, we’ve focused on maximizing top speed Interview by: Aynur Mehdiyeva
