From F1 to MotoGP:Steiner Shares the Reason Behind His Big Switch
Last week it was announced that former Haas Formula 1 team principal Günther Steiner has acquired Tech3, a team competing in the MotoGP World Championship. Under the terms of the agreement, he will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer in 2026, while his business partner, Ricard Collman, will become the team principal.
In a recent interview, Steiner explained why he chose to commit his future to MotoGP rather than pursue a return to Formula 1: “Why didn’t I start a new project in Formula 1? The answer is clear:MotoGP has always fascinated me, but until now I never had the opportunity to fully dedicate myself to this championship,” Steiner noted. “I spent many years in Formula 1, and at this point I believe that is enough. I have always wanted to try something different, because I enjoy new challenges. At one point, I moved to the United States to establish a team in NASCAR while simultaneously continuing my work in Formula 1.”
“Formula 1 is a magnificent championship, but motorsport is not limited to it alone. As I have said before, I like to go beyond familiar boundaries and explore new directions. When we first began considering the MotoGP project, I asked myself: ‘Can we actually make this happen?’ Today, I can confidently say: yes,we have succeeded.”
