From Maserati to Citroen:Stellantis Rebrands Its Formula E Team
Next season, Formula E will welcome a new entry under the banner of Citroen Racing. In reality, this is a rebranding move, as the former Maserati MSG Racing will now compete under another marque of the Stellantis group.
Citroën describes its arrival in the championship as “a new challenge and an exciting journey into electric technologies and innovation, embodying the brand’s values and vision for the future.” For Citroen, it is also a comeback to the motorsport stage where the marque built its legacy, with triumphs ranging from the Dakar Rally to the World Rally Championship where Sébastien Loeb captured nine consecutive titles as well as rallycross and the WTCC.
The team will debut its new identity and livery at the official pre-season tests in Valencia on October 27. Although the line-up has yet to be formally announced, Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne are widely expected to represent the new squad.
Meanwhile, the future of fellow Stellantis brand DS Automobiles is uncertain. The Race reports that DS may, at best, remain in the series as a customer outfit, while Opel is preparing to join Formula E under its own license. This raises the possibility that DS could exit the all-electric championship after a highly successful decade of competition.
