From Pole to Glory:Piastri Wins Dutch GP Epic

Zandvoort:Drama, Strategy,and a Brilliant McLaren Victory

The narrow, technical, and unpredictable circuit at Zandvoort once again lived up to its reputation — there is no room for error here. The unique atmosphere of the track, nestled among the dunes of the North Sea coast, is defined by ever-changing weather, challenging corners, and a sea of orange-clad fans in the grandstands. It’s easy to make a mistake and incredibly difficult to overtake, which makes starting position and strategy absolutely crucial. For the past four years, the pole-sitter has won in Zandvoort — and this year, that streak continued.

Qualifying: Piastri's Breakthrough

After dominating all three practice sessions, it seemed that Lando Norris was destined for pole. However, in the decisive moment of Saturday’s qualifying, Oscar Piastri delivered a flawless lap to secure his fifth pole position of the season.

Starting grid:

Front row: Piastri – Norris

Second row: Verstappen – Hadjar

Third row: Russell – Leclerc

Berman – started from the pit lane due to a parc fermé regulation breach

Before the start, stewards recorded several incidents: Hamilton ignored yellow flags, while Verstappen, Sainz, Norris, and Hülkenberg were found driving too slowly on track. All incidents were deferred for post-race investigation.

The Race:Strategy, Incidents, and a Battle to the End

For this weekend, Pirelli brought softer tyre compounds (C2–C4), which made for more varied strategies. Clouds loomed over the track, adding tension, but the rain never materialised.

Race start: Piastri maintained the lead confidently, while Verstappen, on softer tyres, overtook Norris. Alonso and Bortoleto lost positions, the latter also damaging his front wing. On lap 23, Hamilton crashed into the barrier — his first retirement as a Ferrari driver prompting a Safety Car.

Most front-runners switched to hard tyres. After the restart, Piastri remained ahead, while Sainz was handed a 10-second penalty for contact with Lawson.

Soon after, another incident occurred— Antonelli collided with Leclerc during an overtaking attempt, severely damaging the Ferrari. Another Safety Car was deployed. Leaders took the opportunity for an additional pit stop, with Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen maintaining their positions.

But the drama was far from over.On lap 65, Norris’s car began smoking and lost power, forcing him to retire from a potential podium position.

Race Results:

Oscar Piastri — commanding victory,Grand Slam (pole, win, fastest lap, led every lap), 7th win of the season Max Verstappen — consistent, but unable to challenge for the win Isack Hadjar — sensational result: first career podium, becoming the 219th driver in F1 history to reach the podium Oliver Bearman — started from the pit lane and finished 6th, marking his best result in F1 to date

Next Stop:Monza

In just a week, Formula 1 heads to Monza — Ferrari’s home race and their chance to bounce back after a disastrous weekend in Zandvoort. The grandstands will be packed — all tickets are sold out. Onward to the next chapter of the season!
