George Russell Takes Sprint Pole at Zandvoort as Verstappen Qualifies Sixth

George Russell secured pole position for Saturday’s sprint at the Dutch Grand Prix, producing a stunning final lap to beat Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc in a closely contested qualifying session. The Mercedes driver posted a 1:11.567 in the closing seconds of SQ3, taking his third sprint pole of the season. Norris finished second, while Leclerc completed the top three. The opening segment saw Oliver Bearman, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez eliminated. Aston Martin endured another difficult session, with neither driver able to make it through. In SQ2, Liam Lawson narrowly missed out on a place in the final segment, while Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad impressed by advancing to SQ3. Pierre Gasly and Gabriel Bortoleto also secured places in the top 10. Max Verstappen could only manage sixth place in the final standings. Starting the sprint from the third row at his home race, the Red Bull driver faces a difficult challenge, with Zandvoort’s narrow and twisty layout offering limited opportunities for overtaking. With Russell on pole and several front-running drivers separated by small margins, Saturday’s sprint is set for an intense battle from the opening lap.
