Hamilton Hit with Grid Penalty for Italian GP
The stewards of the Dutch Grand Prix conducted a thorough review of Lewis Hamilton’s actions prior to the start of the race. In their assessment, the British driver breached the regulations by failing to sufficiently reduce his speed while passing through a double yellow flag zone on the way to the starting grid. Furthermore, upon entering the pit lane, he was found to be driving at a “significantly reduced speed,” which also contravenes the race director’s instructions and the Sporting Regulations.
As a result of their investigation, the stewards decided to penalize Hamilton with a five-place grid drop for the next round the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. In addition, two penalty points were added to his super licence. Notably, these are Hamilton’s first penalty points within the last 12-month period.
The stewards also examined two further incidents: the on-track battle between Charles Leclerc and George Russell, as well as Gabriel Bortoleto’s driving of a car deemed potentially unsafe. In both cases, no rule violations were identified, and the stewards opted not to impose any sanctions.
