Historic B192 Enters Top 10 Most Expensive F1 Cars at Auction
The legendary race car Benetton B192, in which Michael Schumacher claimed his first victory at the Belgian Grand Prix 1992, has been sold at the Broad Arrow auction.
An anonymous buyer purchased the car for €5,082,000 less than the expected €8.5 million, yet still enough for chassis No. 05 to enter the top ten most expensive Formula 1 cars ever sold.
The vehicle was equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V8 engine from Ford producing 680 hp. Although it was less powerful than the engines used by McLaren-Honda, Ferrari and Williams-Renault, it was highly regarded for its drivability and reliability.
The B192 was designed by engineers Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn, who later became key figures in Schumacher’s championship successes with Benetton and Ferrari.
