Hungaroring Unveils Official Corner Names for 40th Hungarian Grand Prix Anniversary

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Hungaroring circuit has unveiled one of the most distinctive initiatives in its history by officially assigning names to all 14 corners of the track. Seven of these corners have been named in honour of legendary racing drivers whose achievements have left a lasting mark on the history of motorsport.Preparations for the project began nearly a year ago. Fans were invited to participate by submitting their suggestions for corner names, with organisers encouraging them to propose names that best reflected the spirit of the Hungaroring and the rich heritage of Formula 1. Once the submission period concluded, all proposals were reviewed by a panel of experts comprising representatives of the circuit, motorsport historians, and other specialists. The final selection was formally approved and unveiled during the anniversary race weekend.Particular emphasis was placed on recognising drivers whose names are now permanently associated with some of the circuit's most iconic sections. As a result, Turn 1 has been named after Nelson Piquet, Turn 2 honours Lewis Hamilton, and Turn 4 bears the name of four-time Formula 1 World Champion Nigel Mansell. Further around the lap, Turn 11 has been dedicated to Jean Alesi, Turn 12 to Michael Schumacher, and Turn 13 to Ayrton Senna. The final corner, Turn 14, has been named "Szisz" in honour of Ferenc Szisz, the Hungarian-born racing driver who won the 1906 French Grand Prix at Le Mans. Widely recognised as the first Grand Prix in the history of motorsport, that landmark event makes the naming of the circuit's final corner a symbolic tribute linking modern-day racing with the origins of Grand Prix competition.
