Mercedes Updates Front Wing Design
Ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, Mercedes has made modifications to the design of its front wing following reports suggesting a potential non-compliance with technical regulations.
It was previously reported that Ferrari had approached the FIA requesting a detailed review of the Brackley-based team’s front wing. According to rival claims, the movable flaps were closing more slowly than permitted under the regulations, which specify a limit of 400 milliseconds. It was also noted in the paddock that within this timeframe, the Mercedes elements allegedly closed only partially, requiring an additional approximately 450 milliseconds to return to their original position.
Despite the discussions, no official investigation was launched by the FIA. Nevertheless, Mercedes responded promptly and introduced design changes, describing them as improvements to reliability and measures to address potential risks.
As a result, at the Suzuka round the team will introduce an updated front wing, which is understood to ensure that the flaps close fully within the time frame strictly in accordance with FIA regulations.
