New Pirelli Tyres Impress in Bahrain Heat
Pirelli expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Bahrain tests the tyres consistently handled long stints, showed minimal overheating even in high temperatures, and maintained stable performance throughout.
According to Mario Isola, the results from Bahrain and Barcelona confirmed the findings of last year’s evaluations: the new tyres are performing as expected, and drivers have responded positively to their behaviour. The compounds have become more robust, are less prone to micro-damage, and, based on the past few days, appear largely resistant to overheating.
Isola noted that drivers are still adjusting to the new power-distribution system tyre wear patterns indicate that the rear axle is more prone to wheelspin on corner exits, which slightly increases surface temperature and reduces grip.
Next week, teams are expected to focus more on performance, though they are unlikely to reveal their full potential. Combined with the race simulations conducted in recent days, this will give Pirelli a clearer understanding of what to expect at the start of the season and allow them to refine their tyre selection for the Miami Grand Prix if needed.
