Norris and Piastri Speak Out After Rollercoaster Monza GP

Lando Norris delivered a strong performance at Monza, finishing second in the Italian Grand Prix and reducing his gap to Oscar Piastri in the Drivers’ Championship by three points.

The race was far from straightforward for the Briton. At the start, he attempted to challenge Max Verstappen but lacked the pace in his McLaren to stay ahead. Norris then maintained a steady second place for much of the race, yet during his scheduled pit stop, the team encountered a delay with the replacement of the front left tire. This cost him valuable time and resulted in him rejoining the track behind his teammate, despite having controlled the position up to that point.

Lando Norris (2nd): “I knew I would have to fight hard against Max, and that is exactly what happened at the start. It was exciting, but today we simply did not have the pace to genuinely challenge him and Red Bull.

The race itself was not easy. This was one of those weekends where we were lacking speed. Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable and quite fun to drive. I am not entirely sure what went wrong during the pit stop it felt much longer than usual. From time to time the team makes mistakes, and today was one of those occasions.

I gave absolutely everything I had I doubt I could have achieved a better result. I tried to battle with Max, but he was simply quicker. Second place was the best possible outcome for us today, and I will keep fighting.”

Oscar Piastri (3rd): “The opening laps were difficult, probably not my best start to a race. My pace compared to Charles Leclerc was good, but I had to overtake him, and after that I spent the majority of the race driving on my own.

In the first part of the race I struggled the car did not behave as I wanted it to. Once the tyres began to degrade, things improved slightly, which is never really a good sign. Still, I am pleased with the number of points we managed to secure.”
