Norris on Piastri:"Let the Best Driver Win"

Lando Norris’s late retirement from the Dutch Grand Prix due to technical issues has dealt a significant blow to his championship aspirations. The McLaren driver now finds himself 34 points behind teammate Oscar Piastri, with just nine rounds left to decide the title fight.

Speaking to the media in Monza, Norris struck a philosophical tone when reflecting on the setback. He stressed that he does not believe in luck or rely on chance: “In Zandvoort, everything went against me, but that’s part of motorsport. It could happen again, or maybe not at all. If I end up losing the title because of the points I missed there, it will be tough to accept but that’s life. I’ll move on, come back stronger next year, and push for more.”

Norris insisted there is no reason to alter his approach, reiterating his determination to attack every weekend at full intensity: “Why change anything if the goal is always to win races? I don’t waste energy on hope or superstition I just focus on being faster on track.”

He also underlined the competitive yet respectful rivalry with Piastri: “Oscar and I push each other hard, but always on equal terms. Neither of us will make life easier for the other, yet we have great mutual respect and approach our battles professionally. If he proves to be stronger and wins the championship, I’ll accept that and give him full credit. I don’t wish him any problems the best driver should win.”

Despite the disappointment of Zandvoort, Norris left no doubt that his focus and motivation remain intact. As the season enters its decisive phase, the Briton is determined to keep fighting for the title while staying true to his principles.
