Norris Rules Mexico Qualifying, Leclerc Close Behind
At the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico, overtaking remains a considerable challenge, making qualifying performance a decisive factor for success in the race. Historical data underscores this trend: eleven victories have been achieved from pole position, six from third place, and only four from second.
Over the course of the weekend, track conditions steadily improved. The practice sessions featured a rotation of leaders Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, and Lando Norris each setting the pace at different stages. However, due to the circuit’s high altitude, grip levels were limited, leading to frequent slides and multiple deleted laps for track limit infringements.
In the final phase of qualifying, Norris and Leclerc enjoyed an advantage, each possessing two fresh sets of soft tyres, while their rivals had only one. Ultimately, Norris delivered a superb lap of 1:15.586, outpacing Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to claim his fifth pole position of the season and the 14th of his career. On Sunday, he will start alongside Leclerc on the front row, with Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Max Verstappen lining up directly behind.
